Leaving KC With A 9-4 Loss

W – Blake Wood (5-0)     L – Zach Britton (6-9)

– Britton just hasn’t been the same since Boston. Hes hit some kind of wall and he needs to make the necessary adjustments to get past it. Unfortunately his attempts will be delayed a bit after giving up six runs (four earned) on 12 hits with three strikeouts because he was put on the disabled list after the game with a slight shoulder strain. He described as a tired arm, would hopefully explains his struggles. Jim Johnson didn’t help by giving up three more runs in less than an inning. Mike Gonzalez and Kevin Gregg each pitched scoreless innings.
– The offense was consistent, scoring a run in each of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th innings, but it wasn’t enough. Nick Markakis hit an RBI single in the 3rd, Matt Wieters did the same in the 4th, JJ Hardy hit a solo homerun in the 5th, and Chris Davis hit an RBI double in the 6th. Markakis and Wieters also each doubled. Robert Andino doubled twice. Adam Jones and Vladimir Guerrero each singled and doubled. Nolan Reimold singled and walked.

Player of the game: Nick Markakis – 2-4, RBI, BB, double (18) (.284 AVG)
