O’s Come Home And Lose 5-4

W – Brad Mills (1-1)     L – Tommy Hunter (1-2)     SV – Jon Rauch (11)

– Hunter was making his first start as an Oriole and I’m sure hes not happy with how it went. He gave up four runs on eight hits over four innings. The good news is he didn’t walk anybody but that doesn’t mean his command was very good. He was leaving pitches out over the plate. Thats not going to result in anything good especially against the high powered Blue Jays offense. Both him and the Orioles know hes better than the results. It was his first start of the season so he still needs to build up some arm strength.
– Troy Patton was perfect through three innings but came apart in the top of the 8th, loading the bases with two hits and a walk. Only one run scored as Chris Jakubauskas did a good job with the inherited runners. He finished the inning and also pitched a scoreless 9th. One of the good things about the team recently is the emergence of Patton as a possible “nugget” for the future in the bullpen. Hes been impressive.
– Adam Jones gave us an early lead with a two run homer in the bottom of the 1st. We also scored in the 6th on a Matt Wieters RBI single and the 9th when Nick Markakis doubled in Robert Andino who singled. Markakis also singled and walked. Mark Reynolds singled and walked, Cesar Izturis singled, and Vladimir Guerrero walked. Chris Davis woke up with a sore shoulder and JJ Hardy tweaked his ankle. They’re listed as day to day.

Player of the game: Nick Markakis – 2-4, R, RBI, BB, double (19) (.286 AVG)
