O’s Win Middle Game 6-2

W – Chris Tillman (3-4)     L – Brandon Morrow (8-6)

– From what I can see in Tillman’s two starts since coming up from AAA, hes improved. Whether its enough or hes consistent enough to finally turn the corner is yet to be seen but I’ll take any potential bright spot I can get at this point. Tillman held the Jays to two runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven innings. The thing that stands out the most to me is that he was able to complete seven innings throwing only 93 pitches and he also got twice as many ground outs as fly outs. Thats exactly what he needs to do to be effective in the big leagues. Maybe he wasn’t wasting as many pitches because he was throwing harder, consistently in the low 90’s. He earned the win. Jim Johnson and Kevin Gregg each threw scoreless innings to hold the lead.
– The offense only had four hits but they made them count, resulting in six runs. In the bottom of the 6th inning Nolan Reimold and Blake Davis each singled between a Josh Bell flyout. Robert Andino hit a ground ball right to the shortstop which would’ve ended the inning on a double play but he committed an error and Reimold scored. Adam Jones then hit a three run homer – his 20th, a career high. He also hit an RBI single in the 8th after a sacrifice fly from Nick Markakis. Bell walked and Andino was hit by a pitch for the other baserunners.

Player of the game: Adam Jones – 2-4, R, 4 RBI, HR (20) (.295 AVG)
